abstract = "The growth of urban areas in Brazil occurred after the second half
of the XX century. The urbanization of Cuiaba occurred after 1960.
                         Some micrometeorological studies on the urban area of Cuiab{\'a}
had been developed to know the relationship between the urban
design and meteorological variables as air temperature, relative
humidity and net radiation. However, the remote sensing techniques
have advantage to allow the knowledge of spatial variation of
meteorological variables. Thus, the objective of this study was to
relate the albedo and the surface temperature of different land
use in the urban area of Cuiab{\'a}, Mato Grosso. The TM Landsat
5 images of dry and wet seasons were obtained from the Earth
Explorer website. Deforestation and conversion of native forests
in built areas altered the albedo and the surface temperature. The
surface temperature increased with the surface albedo in different
land use in the urban area of Cuiab{\'a}, Mato Grosso. The dense
vegetation area had the lowest albedo and surface temperature
values, followed by undergrowth. The bare soil had higher surface
albedo, while the built area showed higher surface temperature,
probably because of the energy stored on the built and the
difference in the distribution of available energy into latent and
                         sensible heat.",
